UNITED KINGDOM, October 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Early Years Officer Karyn Cameron has completed a picture book for children aged 3 to 5 about kindness, belonging and the way one caring act can lead to many more. The book, currently titled Three Little Rescues, is in its pre-publishing stage. A release date will be shared once it is confirmed.

The story is set at Sunny Meadow Nursery, in a small village surrounded by green fields and tall trees. Miss Lily, who looks after the children there, believes that everyone, big or small, person or animal, deserves kindness, friendship and fun.
Over several weeks, Miss Lily finds three animals in need. Flash is a young jackdaw with a hurt wing, Clover is a frightened rabbit hiding beneath a park bench after a rainstorm, and Maple is a small hedgehog stuck between a tree and a fence post. Each one is brought to the nursery garden, where the children help keep them safe and warm.
The three animals are very different. Flash is curious and adventurous, Clover is gentle and cautious, and Maple is thoughtful and patient. What they share is the memory of being lonely and afraid, and of the person who helped them. Every day they watch Miss Lily tie shoelaces, wipe away tears and listen to stories about missing teddy bears and wobbly teeth. They notice that caring for others is not always easy, and that she stays kind even when she is busy or tired.
One morning a new child named Oliver arrives. He misses his family and does not know anyone. Miss Lily sits beside him and tells him he does not have to be brave all at once. By the end of the day he is laughing and playing with the other children, and the animals see that she has helped him feel safe, just as she once helped them.
That evening the three friends decide to thank her. Flash gathers a blue feather, Clover collects bright daisies, and Maple arranges coloured leaves into the shape of a heart.
The story closes with a line that sums up its message: “Kindness never ends with one person; it travels from heart to heart.”

Belonging, kindness and respect run through each page. Children see that a person who has been helped often wants to help others in return, and that small acts of care can be passed along.
The sentences are short and the language is simple, which suits reading aloud. The book is intended for use in nurseries and early classrooms, and also as a quiet bedtime story shared with a loved one.

Karyn Cameron lives in Scotland and has worked with children for decades. She currently works as an Early Years Officer in a nursery, where she has a particular interest in early literacy, storytelling and imaginative play. She encourages children to approach storytelling through different modes and media.
Karyn believes children make sense of the world around them more easily through examples taken from tales and books. Stories can carry a moral, share facts, bring humour, introduce new vocabulary or give practice with numbers, and each of these plays a part in a child’s development. In her younger years she also took part in amateur dramatics, with roles ranging from a leading lady to a pantomime dame.

Karyn enjoys rescuing and rehoming animals. She once rescued three small animals in her own garden, and all three appear in the book. Miss Lily is entirely fictional.
She had wanted to write children’s stories for a long time and spent years trying out different ideas and characters. This story brought them together.

Karyn is preparing a set of activities and basic discussion points that parents and early years professionals can use as a starting point when reading the book with children. These will be linked to current early years documents.
Further details about the book and its release will be made available as publication approaches.
