Created and written by Emily Jones and Fernando Olivo and illustrated by Rodrigo Magella, the story introduces families to an unlikely Christmas hero: a small green goblin who begins his adventure far more interested in getting than giving.
Christmas stories already have elves, reindeer, snowmen, angels, and Santa Claus. The creators chose a goblin because he enters the holiday world as an outsider—and because generosity is not what people typically expect from him.
Glee is curious, mischievous, and imperfect. He wants more for himself, makes mistakes, and does not immediately understand what makes Christmas meaningful. That gives him somewhere important to go.
“We chose a goblin because goblins are usually associated with mischief, greed and taking what they want,” said co-creators Jones and Olivo. “Glee begins with every reason to take, which makes his discovery of giving much more meaningful. Children do not need every hero to start perfect. Sometimes the characters they remember most are the ones who learn, change, and choose a better path.”
Glee’s visual design embraces that contrast. His bright green skin, pointed ears, playful expression, and floppy, star-covered hat identify him as a goblin, while his red-and-green clothing places him inside a warm and colorful Christmas world.
His appearance may make him memorable, but his capacity to change is what makes him lovable.
As Glee’s adventure unfolds, the things he wants to collect become less important than what happens when he shares, helps, and gives to someone else. His transformation allows children to discover the meaning of generosity alongside him instead of receiving the message from a character who already has every answer.
