severed finger, a missing woman and a mountain trail lead investigators through suspicion, deception and a truth buried in the past.
NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, October 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Author George Kerpi invites readers into a world of suspicion, buried history and unexpected truth with Treacherous Path, a crime mystery built around one haunting question: How well can we ever truly know another person?
The story begins with the disappearance and death of Natalie Brooks. As investigators search for answers, disturbing evidence begins to surface, including a severed finger bearing a familiar ring. Suspicion falls quickly, but what appears obvious becomes increasingly uncertain as investigators uncover conflicting accounts, hidden connections and details that refuse to fit neatly together.
At the center of the investigation are Captain Steven Harlan and Detective Aaron Chase, two men attempting to separate evidence from assumption while the people surrounding Natalie are forced to confront their own histories with her.
For Kerpi, however, Natalie is more than the victim around whom a mystery is constructed.
“Natalie was probably the most difficult character for me to write,” Kerpi says. “I wanted to do justice to her memory. The entire book is built around the death of this one person. If the reader doesn’t care about the person who died, then ultimately, why should they care who killed her?”
That approach gives Treacherous Path a purpose beyond discovering the identity of a killer. The novel explores how quickly suspicion can become certainty, how appearances can distort judgment, and how the truth about another human being is rarely as simple as it first appears.
Kerpi, originally from the Republic of Georgia and now based in New York, brings a lifelong connection to storytelling to his work. His literary influences include the Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli, author of The Knight in the Panther’s Skin. Kerpi initially experimented with telling Treacherous Path in verse before deciding that the characters and mystery needed the freedom and space of a novel.
Ultimately, Kerpi hopes readers leave the story with more than the answer to a mystery.
“The first thing I would ask a reader is simply, ‘Did you like it?’” Kerpi says. “But what I am most curious about is something else: Are you more of a person after reading Treacherous Path than you were before?”
Treacherous Path by George Kerpi is available in paperback, hardcover and eBook editions.
