Students nationwide are invited to write on “The Skill I’m Teaching Myself That No Class Offers”; entries close October 1, 2026
DOVER, DE, UNITED STATES, August 19, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Direct Textbook has opened its 2026 Essay Scholarship Contest, inviting students across the United States to compete for four cash prizes, including a top award of $2,000. Applicants are invited to submit an original essay on the theme “The Skill I’m Teaching Myself That No Class Offers,” and the contest closes to entries on October 1, 2026.
Direct Textbook created the scholarship as part of its ongoing commitment to helping students reduce the financial burden of education. This year’s topic encourages participants to reflect on the knowledge, habits, or abilities they’ve developed independently, beyond what traditional education provides.
The scholarship is open to currently enrolled high school seniors, college students, and postgraduates who are legal U.S. residents. Winners will be selected by the Direct Textbook team and notified by email on or before October 31, 2026. One of the four prizes is traditionally funded by Direct Textbook users who donate their cashback to the prize fund.
Full contest rules and the entry form are available at https://www.directtextbook.com/scholarship.
“This year’s essay prompt highlights the growing importance of self-directed learning in a world where technology, careers, and industries continue to evolve faster than traditional education,” said Sandra Ortega, Scholarship Coordinator at Direct Textbook. “The scholarship prize fund can make a meaningful difference for students, and we hope it encourages many of them to share their stories. Reading essays about their authentic experiences gives us a chance to better understand the challenges, creativity, and resilience of today’s students.”
Launched in 2002, Direct Textbook helps students save money on textbooks by comparing prices across a wide network of online bookstores for new, used, rental, and eBook titles. The company’s cashback program lets users earn money back on their purchases, which they can put toward future books or, as with this year’s contest, pool to support fellow students.
