Beneath its unusual feline premise, Love & Murder offers a provocative look at human behavior when security disappears.
SEATTLE, WA, UNITED STATES, October 19, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — What if a pair of pampered house cats suddenly had to survive on the streets? For award-winning author Katie Christine Bishop, the question began with a chance encounter in France, where she noticed a colony of cats sheltering around a church. How many of these animals, she wondered, had once known a comfortable home and a caring family, only to lose that security in a flash?
That question ultimately became Love & Murder, a darkly humorous, suspenseful story in which squabbling sibling house cats — suddenly thrust into the outside world — navigate gangs, food scarcity, betrayal, environmental upheaval and the struggle for survival. Through her feline characters, Bishop explores what happens to compassion, loyalty and morality when the familiar structures of safety disappear.
Bishop’s own childhood gave her an early understanding of how quickly security can change. She grew up comfortably middle-class, did well in school, went to church and played soccer. Then her mother became ill and permanently disabled, and her father lost his job. Years later, that experience of how suddenly circumstances can change would inform the questions at the heart of Love & Murder.
Reminiscent of George Orwell’s Animal Farm and Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Love & Murder uses an unconventional cast to examine very human questions about survival, social order and the nature of humanity under environmental stress.
In Midwest Book Review, Diane Donovan said, “Uplifting, engrossing, and deserving of slow reading (if only because the alluring story must eventually, sadly, conclude), Love & Murder is a top recommendation that both defies pat categorization and tantalizes the heart and soul.”
