Educator, entrepreneur and storyteller returns to the Washington area Sept. 12 to explore the lessons behind Holding On & Letting Go

WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, September 1, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Educator, entrepreneur and storyteller Patrick J. Yuran will hold a free presentation exploring his 2026 memoir, Holding On & Letting Go: A Story of Love, Life, & Loss, on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 5 p.m. at the flagship Busboys and Poets 14th & V location, 2021 14th St. NW in Washington, D.C.

The presentation will explore the story and themes that shaped the book, including the lessons Yuran and his wife, Marie, learned after she was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer. A conversation with Yuran will follow, along with a book signing and an opportunity for a meet and greet.

“I wanted to write this book in a way that could help someone else going through a difficult season,” Yuran said. “Our experience taught me a lot about being present, finding purpose and recognizing that even during uncertainty, there can still be meaningful moments. I hope people leave the book, and this conversation, with something they can carry into their lives.”

The event is free and open to the public. Copies of Holding On & Letting Go will be available for purchase at the event. All proceeds from Holding On & Letting Go events go directly to The Marie Yuran Endowment for Cancer Patient Supportive Care, housed within The Tanner Foundation.

In Holding On & Letting Go, Yuran invites readers into an intimate journey shaped by love, illness and loss. After his wife, Marie, was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer, their lives changed dramatically. What followed was not only a story of grief, but of enduring connection. Through 10 chapters, each centered on a lesson learned together, Yuran blends memoir with reflection prompts and discussion questions designed to support readers navigating caregiving, loss or seasons of profound change.

The Washington event also marks a return to an area where Yuran spent a significant part of his career in education. He worked for 10 years at the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, Maryland, serving as assistant principal and director of theatre before continuing his education leadership career in Georgia.

Yuran has more than 25 years of experience in education and currently serves as Head of School at Oak Mountain Academy. He is also the founder of the Nova Discovery Experience, an educational initiative focused on helping students build real-world skills and better understand the opportunities available to them after high school.
Beyond education, Yuran is the founder and artistic director of The REAL Theatre, a nonprofit dedicated to building community through the performing arts. He also leads PJY Consulting, supporting schools, universities and arts organizations in strategic growth and program development.
